The New Bedford Film Society is proud to partner with the Zeiterion Theater (684 Purchase Street) to produce Cinema New Bedford, Tuesday night screenings of independent and international films that spark conversation and build community.

Interview with director PJ Raval, CALL HER GANDA

Timed to coincide with Transgender Remembrance Day, POV made CALL HER GANDA available for free online. Raval's stunning documentary examines the tragic death of Filipina trans woman Jennifer Laude with an anti-colonialist lens that sees the intersections of imperialism, misogyny, racism, and transphobia. Raval discusses the film and its particular resonance with New Bedford viewers.

Livestream discussion for 13th

In response to increased awareness around systemic racism, police brutality, and the carceral state, Netflix was quick to make Ava Duvernay's stunning documentary about mass incarceration and the 13th Amendement widely available for free on YouTube. The New Bedford Film Society produced a livestream panel discussion of the film with abolition and human rights organizers from the Southcoast and Seattle, hosted by film scholar Cooper Sealy.
